What do you think is art?
What isn't art?
How can you tell the difference between art and not art?
What is beauty?
If you find a good webpage about the Philosophy of art put it in here.
What do you think about Schopenhauer ? Can art save us?
Is popular culture art? Pop music, pop writing (Cosmo?), pop tv and movies? Is any of that art? If so how?
What do you think about Schopenhauer ? Can art save us?

Aesth-aesth-aesth-aesthetically Pleasing!
My opinion of art is something that expresses emotion while at the same time evoking emotion. Basically anything combined with creativity with the purpose of provoking emotion, whether it be provoking emotion from yourself or for an audience.
What isn't art, is not creative, and has no purpose.
A key idea in art is opinion. An artist makes a creation with his own opinion and aims his creation purposefully at another opinion, whether that opinion be similar or substantially different. Personal opinion can provoke seperate emotions. Deciding what is art and what is not art is also an opinion based operation.
Schopenhauer is very very mistaken. Art cannot save us. Suffering cannot save us. Lack of will cannot save us. Lack of will, will result in death and no progression. It will not progress the species and serves no benefit to anyone, not even yourself. I don't see how massive amounts of suffering followed by lots and lots of art will save anyone from anything other than having a life. _________________ "It is a miracle that curiosity survives normal education" ~ Albert Einstein |
