In TOK today we discussed the philosophy of science. I would like to start a discussion on the role technology will play in the future.
Will technology be controlled by humans? If so what will it be used for: weapons, health, etc?
Does anyone believe that technology will eventually pass humans on world supremacy and also exterminate them?

I've never taken any of those theories that robots will one day take over the human race. It just isn't logical. _________________ The test of our progress is not whether we add to the abundance of those who have much. We are dehumanised robots. All evidence points towards this.
Video games and movies are desensitising us to violence and feeling, we no longer see the world as we once did. Science is on the cusp of discovering immortality; indeed, we are bringing heart-attack victims back to life.
Soon every decision will be based on progression and logic rather than feeling and human nature. Our capitalist economy is already a prime example of this; the heads of large corporations consider money their primary concern, and are willing to sacrifice in the face of moral dilemmas.

I don't agree.
There must be some logical way to prove that choosing good over evil is the right, better decision. A truly super-computer would be able to see that destroying human life must have some down-side, or else it already would have been done.
So, with that in mind, I'm not worried if computers "take over" the world. I think it would be a lot worse if humans controlled computers as weapons, as mentioned. After all, as Molly said, we humans aren't always logical in the right way, are we? _________________ The start of the end. |
